๐ซ Practical option plays ยท Time-based
3:00 PM Nifty intraday
Enter a Nifty option position at 3:00 pm based on the day's trend + closing 30-min setup. Exit at the 3:20 pm close. Captures the pre-close bias with minimal duration.
Setup
- Between 2:45-3:00 pm: analyse the day's trend โ Nifty above/below VWAP, higher/lower closing highs, sector participation
- Look for a clear directional bias in the last hour candles
- Weekly ATM Nifty option โ the tight time window needs high gamma
Entry
At 3:00 pm exactly: if bias is up, buy ATM call. If down, buy ATM put. If unclear, skip โ do not force a trade.
Exit
Exit at 3:20 pm regardless of P&L โ this is a 20-minute maximum-hold trade. Do NOT overstay into the 3:25-3:30 chaos.
Stop-loss
Fixed 30% of premium OR immediate exit if direction reverses in the first 5 minutes.
When it works
- Directional close days with obvious bias by 2:45
- Sensex/Nifty on non-expiry days
- Discipline to exit at 3:20 sharp โ no exceptions
When it fails
- Choppy close days where 3:00-3:20 goes both ways
- Expiry days where extreme gamma turns 20 minutes into a coin flip
- Ignoring the exit time โ every extra minute past 3:20 adds gamma risk without theta reward
General trading rules that apply
Regardless of the specific setup, these apply to every strategy on this site:
- Never risk more than 2% of your account on a single trade
- Place a hard stop-loss before entering โ no exceptions
- Journal every trade: setup, reason, outcome, one lesson
- After two consecutive losses, stop for the session
- Backtest and paper-trade for a month before deploying real capital
Every strategy here is an educational description of a widely-known technical setup. Past behavior does not guarantee future results. The chart above uses synthetic price data generated for illustration โ real market behavior varies. Backtest, paper-trade, and size responsibly before risking real capital.
